It's Never Too Early

It is never too early to begin thinking about next season and the impact of the rookie class on the fantasy teams of next season. We can start by looking at the past 2 seasons rookie contributions. This past year Adrian Peterson was the best rookie I have ever seen. His numbers were amazing and if you picked him up in your draft, well all I can say is that you are a gambling man. The talk was that he was prone to injury, and in reality he did get hurt, but came back from it strong. The downside to him this year is that Chester Taylor emerged strong in his absence and they ran a tandem back scheme the rest of the year.

If we mention A.P. we need to also mention the rookie bust of the year, Calvin Johnson. The Lions had such high hopes for this receiver making them a contender. He unfortunately injured his back and that is all she wrote for that season. His numbers were disappointing to say the least.

2006 had a little rookie named Hester who was the main reason I chose Chicago's Defense and Special Teams this past season. He was good, the Defense was not so much.

So who will be this years rookie standout sensation? Who will make you look like a genius in your circle of friends? All these answers and more next time.

Let's hope that LT and Rivers are both healthy enough to play a full game because thats the only way the Chargers have a slim shot at going to the Super Bowl. Lets just begin the conversation now about Green Bay and the Pats meeting in this years super bowl.

Giants @ Green Bay

Can you say cold? It is supposed to be a wind chill of a million degrees below zero. And I am not exaggerating. This week we can really call the football a rock, it is going to be a slippery hard rock and will be falling out of the Giants hands all day because they are not used to conditions like this. Ryan Grant will again be the difference in this game and secure his place as a #2-3 fantasy RB next season.

Absolutely terrible, who would have thought that Eli would be the only Manning brother still alive in the playoffs. I guess Cancun was that good for Romo. I can't wait to hear what T.O. has to say about this. He has been too quiet this whole year. He is sooooooo due.

Jax does not match up well against this Pats team. They do not have the defense to stop the crazy amount of talent in the receiving core. Garrard has been throwing interceptions lately as well and thats not a winning stat to have in the playoffs.

San Diego @ Colts

If this was just a contest of athleticism between running backs, I would give the game to the Chargers without question. But with weapons like Clark, Addai, Wayne, Harrison, and lest we forget Peyton Manning, they are pretty hard to match up against. Especially at home.
On the Chargers side, they will be playing without Antonio Gates. Thank god they have L.T. Without him the game wouldn't even be interesting. L.T. will keep the Colts honest up until the 4th quarter. Then the Colts will run away with it.

Colts by 21 at home Unless I am wrong.

Seattle @ Green Bay

Even if the entire Seattle team wore battery heated pants, the Seahawks would still fall just short. Even though the Hawks have many weapons through the air, their running game never really came together. I had the Green Bay Defense, Donald Lee, and Ryan Grant on my fantasy team this year and they more than took care of me. I have seen what they can do first hand. Maybe I am a little bias, but a newcomer named Brett Favre will have a great day and will win the game fairy easily. It will be over by the first quarter.

Giants @ Dallas

Eli finally won a playoff game last week for the first time in his career, and this is where his streak will end. Even Dallas without T.O. has too many weapons at their disposal. The week off for Romo and Witten in Mexico was probably time well spent, I am sure they spoke of football at some point. It was less distration and more blowing off some steam.

Not bad for the first picks of the playoffs. Injuries to Tampa gave Eli some added confidence which is apparently just what he needed. Other than that the Seahawks blew out the Redskins, Jax squeezed by Pitt, and the Titans blew a lead to let Norv Turner live another week before folding like a card table.

Eli better hope the Cabo story wasn't blown out of proportion. He needs a miracle like that. Picks will be up on Thursday, till then

Jacksonville @ Pittsburgh

This is a tough game. Put aside the injuries and the earlier game played, which the Jags won. Jax has two outstanding RB who can both break the big gains and exploit any weakness they see in the defense. Speaking of defense, the Steeler D has not been all that it could be. I had their D in my fantasy league and by week 8 I was not a happy camper. Jax also has Garrard, who only through his first interception a few weeks ago.

This one is easy, without Willie Parker, and Troy Poloalomaolo (I'll never learn to spell his name) being banged up the Steelers are at the mercy of the football gods. Big Ben is healthy and strong, but I don't think he is enough to beat the Jags on Saturday.

NY Giants @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Giants seem desperate. They are hanging on to 2 brothers talking smack 3 weeks ago for motivation and as the ATH guys said, and I agree, its all just BS. How about the playoffs being motivation enough. Here is the deal as I see it. On the Bucs side, Jeff Garcia is the man, he is calm and cool and took Philly into the playoffs last year as a back-up. He wont always blow you out, but he wins enough to make you notice him. He's got Galloway who is still one of the fastest men in the NFL, so it appears by the way he runs right past them, and he is about to be eligible for AARP. Earnest Graham is a surprise and can run with any team and make them a winner. He is just a stud.
That is all it will take to win the game.
The Giants played great against the Pats last Saturday and I was rooting for them, being a Jet fan, you know I hate the Pats. Anywho, the Giants do not have a cool and confident QB when anything is on the line. He was great against the Pats because it didn't matter whether they won or lost. Unless he figured that out, we wont see Eli Manning, we will see Don Knots taking snaps, throwing interceptions and of course, getting sacked.

Titans @ Chargers

It will take Vince Young, LenDale White and an army to beat LT and the Chargers this weekend, or maybe it will take only one man to do it.

Norv Turner may be just what the Titans need to pull an upset this Saturday night in San Diego. I think it may be in his DNA to lose the playoff games.

That being said, LT has been planning his attack on this Titan defense and I am sure he found some holes he can exploit. I think in spite of Norv Turner the Chargers will take this one, but somewhere along the way, whether it be in Indy, or in New England, Norv will show his true colors.

Chargers by 10 I believe.

Washington Redskins @ Seattle Seahawks

I am not sure how the Redskins even got as far as they have this season. First, they had their first wide receiver touchdown just a few weeks ago. Second, the horrific murder of All-Pro safety Sean Taylor. They made it to the playoffs by the skin of their teeth collectively and I believe this is where they will fall off that horse.

Seattle has an amazing wide receiver core and a pretty good running back named...hmm whats that guys name again. Shaun
Alexander will have a breakout game of Saturday. I believe he will look like more like the league leading running back of old and less like Micheal Strahan. Their offense is great and Todd Collins will make their defense look great as well.
The hawks will dominate in Saturday's early game, but don't be fooled, they aren't as good as they appear to be. It's all an illusion because the adrenaline is running out for the Redskin team.
